Hood Scoop IC splitter for Subaru Forester SG 2002-2008 is required if you have swapped your motor to the EJ20x/y series of engines.
The Hood Scoop splitter from Rising Tuning will help create alignment between the Forester SG hood air intake and the standard upper intercooler from the EJ20x engine. A rubber seal along the bottom edge of the splitter will create a secure and tight connection - forming a straight tunnel. This will increase the density of the incoming air and its incoming volume, this will allow hot air streams to be diverted more efficiently and cool the entire system as effectively as possible.
So with the installation of the Hood Scoop IC splitter you don't need to change the standard intercooler, you can keep the standard one from the EJ20x that was designed for it.
If you do not install this splitter, you will not be able to effectively cool the engine and create alignment between the upper intercooler and the hood nostril.
